Sound & Soul

This particular grooving throw down, Viva Cal!, pays loving tribute to the late Cal Tjader, drummer, percussionist and vibraphonist of some renown who started out playing with Dave Brubeck and George Shearing, and went on to break new ground in Latin and Afro-Cuban jazz in upwards of 70 albums spanning 1951 through 1982.
Bay Area percussionist Frankie Pineiro (Guisando Caliente Latin Jazz Quintet) leads the “Viva Cal!” session, with back-up from Kenny Drew Jr.(RIP) (piano), Joe Porter (bass), Hector Mayoral (percs), John Jenkins ( Drums & Timbales) and vibraphone phenom Cole Hazlitt.
This Album was recorded on.Sunday Nov. 17, at HCC-Ybor Mainstage Theatre, Ybor City, Tampa Florida
